Description

Early broadside, 8 x 10.5 in., [n.d. but 1894], printed on one side of a sheet of illustrated letterhead from the office of Val Verde County Commissioners. The announcement, titled ‘Val Verde County Texas’, gives pertinent information about the area, climate, soil, property valuation, county seat of Del Rio, and more. The verso bears an interesting letter from a gentlemen regarding his salary as a constable but claims his labor equal to that of a sheriff, and demands he be paid the difference in monies owed. Trimmed at bottom, loss at left top corner, edges a bit worn and toned, overall good. Val Verde was formed in 1885, and this is possibly the oldest promotional broadside for the county.
