Description
(1844-1926) American painter and printmaker, exhibited in Paris with the Impressionists, renowned for her images of women and children. Very rare, fine association A.L.S. ‘Mary Cassatt’ in French, 2pp. 12mo., [n.p., n.d.] ‘Saturday’ [n.d. but ca. 1874], on her ‘10, Rue de Marignan’ imprinted correspondence card to her niece Jeanne Pontillon, the daughter Edma Morisot, Impressionist Berthe Morisot’s older sister and the wife of Edouard Manet’s’ brother, Eugene. In part: ‘…As you can see, I am here again and I do not know when I will finish painting. Certainly not by the end of the month…It takes patience as you know….’. She also mentions ‘…an exposition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York…’. Jeanne Pontillon is perhaps best remembered as the subject of Berthe Morisot’s acclaimed painting ‘Portrait of Jeanne Pontillon’ (1894). Hurriedly written with a somewhat faulty pen, fine.
