Two manuscript Bills of Sale, including:
N.p., April 2, 1828. 9 1/4 x 8 in. (235 x 203 mm). Manuscript bill of sale for an enslaved girl named Edy. "Rcd from Philip J. Weaver four hundred dollars in full payment of a Certain negro Girl named Edy about nineteen years of age - to this (?) Negro I warrant to be sound and healthy & a slave for life. I do hereby warrant the right and title of said negro from me my heirs and every other person claiming the same for ever. My hand and seal this 2nd day of April 1828." Signed by "Jones," and a witness "P.F. Hodgson." Docketed on verso, "Bill of Sale of Negro Edy from R.R. Jones." Top edge of document affixed to mount, top third portion of document fully separated at fold line, partial separation at fold near lower margin, toning, edge wear.
N.p., August 2nd, 1831. 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. (190 x 165 mm). Manuscript bill of sale for 4 enslaved individuals and a "boy squire." "Received of Ca. P.J. Weaver Thirteen Hundred Dollars...for the purchase of Sandy (?) Negroes, to wit Will, Nelley, Milley and Child & boy squire. The right and title of 4 healthy negroes I warrant and defend free from all claim or claims whatsoever, as which my hand and seal the date above." Signed by "German Jordan" with subjects' names and assigned values listed below. Docketed on verso, "German Jordan Bill Sale / Will Nelley / Milley & her Child and Boy Squire." Top edge of document affixed to mount, light fold lines, loss to lower left corner.
