Chinese Export Red Lacquer and Gilt Six-Panel Screen

Description

Chinese Export Red Lacquer and Gilt Six-Panel Screen.The six-panel folding screen decorated on one side with a continuous landscape scene rendered in gilt against a red lacquer ground. The composition depicts mountains, pavilions, bridges, trees, and small boats along a river, arranged across the panels to form a panoramic view. Decorative geometric borders appear along the upper and lower edges. The reverse side finished with a dark lacquer ground decorated in gilt with a landscape of mountains, trees, and water in a more simplified composition framed within rectangular borders. Each panel joined with metal hinges allowing the screen to fold. {Approximate dimensions: height 72 inches; width 86 inches open; each panel width 15 7/8 inches}
