Description:Print from the series, Hyakunen no hana ('Flower of One Hundred Years'); a series of bijin prints, illustrating women in decades of the 20th century when their ideas, expectations and role in society had changed dramatically. - Here, in the first design of the series: Senkyu hyaku-nen no kuchi-e ('A Frontispiece Illustration of 1900'), a young woman is fascinated by the kuchi-e published as a supplement to the Bungei Kurabi magazine. - These kuchi-e ('Frontispiece illustrations') were made for popular literary magazines, which largely aimed at female readers in the Meiji and Taishô eras. They were published by newly established publishers, such as Bungei Kurabu, Shunyodo and Suzando.
