Description
In addition it is a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic architecture and one of the most elegant stations in the World. The station was 1st designed by William Henry Barlow in 1868 with wrought iron pillars supporting a single span arched train shed constructed of iron and glass. At 243ft by 110ft high at its apex, it was both the largest ironwork structure of its kind worldwide-as well as the largest enclosed space in the world. The station's iron and glass roof was a bold innovation, made up of 25 arched trusses, each weighing 55 tons. To extend platforms to accept Eurostar high speed trains, the west wall of the station was rebuilt using 16 million bricks manufactured identically to the original.
This lot is a Dye Based Photolithograph and is a restoration print, produced 'after' the original photograph. Rather than being a one-of-a-kind work, it is an open edition, non-commercial sheet-fed mechanical print, analogous to the process used for sheet-fed photogravures. It is enclosed in a polypropylene, archival presentation pocket and reinforced before shipping.
