In France, the "fool " or joker officially appeared in card games in 1902, the Camoin houses as well as Fossorier, Amar et Cie2, card manufacturers, obtaining authorization from the Administration to add a joker( le fou ). It could be a proof sheet or a sheet to be glued on a hard backing .Grimaud playing cards are a beautiful piece of French history. Founder Baptiste Paul Grimaud dedicated his life to producing the finest playing cards. In 1848, at the age of 23, he bought a workshop in Paris. Within a few years, he had transformed the manufacture of playing cards from a modest craft into a large-scale enterprise. After his passing, his nephews presented their late uncle’s work at the 1900 Paris Exposition, where the brand received several awards for its exceptional contributions to the playing card field.
size 15 x 16 , good condition , fresh color , possibly original printing from the late 19th to first quarter of 20th. since newer paper tend to get yellow and brittle due to the oxidation of the wood pulp wood. Suitable for framing .
