Title: 1870 Berteaux French antique terrestrial globe 7 " Delamarche successor

Description: Charles-Francois Delamarche (1740-1817), the founder of the family firm was one of the most important French geographers and mapmakers of the second half of the eighteenth century. Successor to Nicolas Sanson (1600 – 1667), Robert de Vaugondy (1686 – 1766), and Rigobert Bonne (1727 – 1794), whose atlases he reprinted. His son Félix Delamarche (18th century – 1st half 19th century) continued his work. This globe was published by Berteaux who succeeded to Delamarche in 1860's , globe making was not just a luxury item but was becoming a household item .
The last picture is the 25 rue Serpente which was Delamarche last place of commerce , listed on the globe since Berteaux took on Delamarche inventory .
St Petersburg in Russia and La Plata in today Argentina point to mid to late 1860's , Alaska is part of the US ( after 1867 ) .
Size : H. 15 D. 7 inches , there are some oxidation and dark spot but most of the map is readable , some missing paper in the middle of Africa .
