Chinese carved red lacquer vase of square baluster form, each side finely carved in relief with figural landscape scenes depicting scholars in mountainous settings. The neck and foot decorated with floral and scrolling motifs over a diaper ground.The interior coated in black lacquer with visible wear, revealing the underlying core. Works of this type were produced during the late Qing dynasty and into the early 20th century.
Condition
Heavy wear to interior lacquer with losses exposing the underlying core. Surface wear and minor losses consistent with age.
