John Ruskin had a life and career that made the author, a romantic visionary, the most important cultural figure of his time. This book reflects his championing of natural beauty, art and humanity as a whole. He was one of the major Victorian thinkers along with Mill, Pater and others. The book is divided into sections: Beauty; Nature; Architechture; Sculpture; Painting; Poetry; Morals and Religion.
Image on pastedown faded but visible. Tears, chips to leather cover as would be expected with a book of this age.
Small pencilled number 5 on upper right edge of page 1 of contents.
Minor water staining right upper page edges about one-fifth of pages from back to front. Minor water staining to few pages upper top edge from ffep to third page. Pages clean with some age discoloration.
