Details:
MacMillan Polar Expedition flown airmail cover, carried on the inaugural domestic flight segment of the famed expedition prior to its transatlantic crossing. This scarce envelope was flown from Philadelphia to Boston as part of the MacMillan Expedition’s preparatory aviation operations, during which Admiral Richard E. Byrd served as the expedition’s aviation lead—years before his historic flights over the North and South Poles.
To document the journey, a limited group of just 60 covers was officially flown on this route, making surviving examples seldom encountered today. The cover bears appropriate period postal markings and routing cachets confirming carriage, with arrival markings present on the reverse.
Condition is very good, with light handling wear consistent with genuine expedition-flown material. An important and early aviation artifact tied directly to the formative era of polar exploration and long-distance flight.
A desirable piece for collectors of early airmail, polar exploration, and pioneering aviation history.
