Burt Bacharach (1928–2023) was an American composer, songwriter, and pianist whose sophisticated pop melodies and distinctive arrangements helped define the sound of the 1960s and 1970s. Collaborating frequently with lyricist Hal David, he penned numerous hits including “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” “Walk On By,” and “I Say a Little Prayer.” Over his career, Bacharach earned multiple Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and an enduring reputation as one of popular music’s greatest craftsmen.
