Shmuel Tankus autographed First Day Cover commemorating Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv, issued on May 4, 1959. The cover features a portrait of Dizengoff, Israeli postage marking the 50th anniversary of Tel Aviv, and official Tel Aviv postmarks, including Herzlia Hebrew Gymnasium. Signed in blue ink by Tankus at right. A strong naval and military association piece linking a senior Israeli Navy commander with a key civic anniversary in Israel’s early statehood period.

Shmuel Tankus (1913–1984) was a senior Israeli naval officer who served as Commander of the Israeli Navy during the formative years of the State of Israel. He played an important role in developing Israel’s naval capabilities and maritime defense infrastructure in the post-independence era.
