Details:
August Sebastiani autographed June 4, 1979 Sebastiani Vineyards letter on official illustrated letterhead, addressed to Ms. Sally Boehm of San Francisco regarding a customer inquiry about a bottle of Mountain Chablis. Signed in blue ink beneath the printed company name, “Sebastiani Vineyards.”
In the letter, Sebastiani responds personally to a complaint, noting that the wine likely “developed a secondary fermentation creating the condition you talked about,” and offers to send either a reimbursement check or a replacement bottle “with my compliments.” The tone reflects the hands-on customer service typical of family-operated California wineries during the era.
Accompanied by an original Sebastiani wine label, 1980 “Nouveau – Northern California Gamay Beaujolais,” printed with “The First Wine of the Vintage” and decorative vineyard imagery. The label provides an attractive visual companion piece representing the winery’s branding during the same period.
Fine condition.
August Sebastiani served as President of Sebastiani Vineyards, one of Sonoma’s historic wine producers with roots tracing back to the 19th century. Under his leadership, the winery expanded its regional reputation and distribution during the modern growth of California’s wine industry.
