Woodrow Wilson autographed dinner program book issued by the Democratic Union of New Jersey for a formal dinner held in Wilson’s honor. Wilson has signed his name prominently in ink on an interior illustrated page featuring his portrait among notable Democratic political figures.
The program commemorates a dinner tendered to “The Honorable Woodrow Wilson” by the Democratic Union of New Jersey on Wednesday, October 12, 1910, at the Monomonock Inn in Caldwell, New Jersey. The book contains decorative political imagery, period typography, and a printed dinner menu including items such as blue points, consommé, “Jersey Blue” broiled fish, tenderloin with mashed potatoes, and other courses typical of early twentieth-century political banquets. The volume features decorative embossed covers reading “Democratic Union of New Jersey” with a gilt state crest and ornate border decoration.
Condition is consistent with age and handling. The book shows light overall wear with edge rubbing and toning, and the spine is fragile with numerous interior pages loose or partially detached.
Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924) served as the 28th President of the United States from 1913 to 1921. Prior to the presidency he was president of Princeton University and Governor of New Jersey. Wilson led the nation during World War I and later championed the creation of the League of Nations as part of his vision for international peace. His leadership during the war and his postwar diplomacy earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919.
