Eleanor Roosevelt autographed typed letter signed on “The White House, Washington” letterhead, dated January 15, 1935. In the warmly worded correspondence to Mrs. McCamy, Roosevelt expresses appreciation for a handmade bedspread, luncheon set, and woven piece, and notes her interest in visiting when next in Georgia. Signed “Eleanor Roosevelt” at the conclusion.
Slight damage with a tiny tear affecting the area over the “E” in Eleanor in the signature.
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (October 11, 1884 – November 7, 1962) was First Lady of the United States from 1933 to 1945 during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. One of the most active and influential First Ladies in history, she transformed the role into a platform for advocacy on human rights, civil rights, and social reform. After leaving the White House, she continued her public service as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations, where she played a key role in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
