Gerald R. Ford (1913–2006) served as the 38th President of the United States from 1974 to 1977, assuming office after the resignation of Richard Nixon. Previously House Minority Leader and later Vice President, Ford sought to restore public trust in government during the post-Watergate era. He is perhaps best known for granting a pardon to Nixon and for his efforts to stabilize the nation during a period of political transition. Ford remains the only U.S. President never elected to the presidency or vice presidency.
