John M. Harlan autographed typed letter on official Supreme Court of the United States letterhead dated September 30, 1958, addressed to Mrs. Donald A. Currier of Harvey, Illinois. In the brief note, Harlan writes: “I have no photographs available, but perhaps the enclosed leaflet will suffice as a substitute.” The letter concludes with “Sincerely yours,” and is boldly signed in blue ink by Harlan.
Fine condition.
John Marshall Harlan II (1899–1971) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1955 to 1971 after being appointed by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Grandson of the famed Justice John Marshall Harlan, he became known for his careful constitutional analysis and influential opinions in major civil liberties cases during the Warren Court era.
