Felix Frankfurter autographed official 4.5 x 3.5” Supreme Court of the United States card bearing the printed letterhead “Supreme Court of the United States, Washington 25, D.C.” Frankfurter has signed neatly across the center in dark ink, “Felix Frankfurter.” The card is accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed to Mrs. Donald Currier of Harvey, Illinois, postmarked Washington, D.C., September 29, 1958, with a Lincoln 4¢ stamp and Smokey Bear “Prevent Forest Fires” cancellation.

Felix Frankfurter (1882–1965) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1939 to 1962. Appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frankfurter was previously a professor at Harvard Law School and one of the most influential legal scholars of his generation. On the Court he was known as a leading advocate of judicial restraint, emphasizing that courts should defer to the elected branches of government except in clear constitutional conflicts.
