William O. Douglas autographed official 4.5 x 3.5” Supreme Court of the United States card bearing the printed letterhead “Supreme Court of the United States, Washington 25, D.C.” Douglas has signed prominently across the center in blue ink, “Wm O Douglas.” The card is accompanied by a typed letter dated October 14, 1958 from his secretary, Fay Aull, responding to Mrs. Donald A. Currier and explaining that the chambers did not maintain a supply of photographs for distribution but that Justice Douglas would be willing to autograph one if provided.

William O. Douglas (1898–1980) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1939 to 1975, the longest tenure in the Court’s history. Appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Douglas became one of the most influential liberal voices on the Court, known for his expansive interpretations of civil liberties and environmental protections during the mid-twentieth century.
