Benjamin N. Cardozo autographed typed letter (TLS), dated December 23, 1930, on personal letterhead reading “Benjamin N. Cardozo, New York City,” with address 36 West 44th Street. In the letter, Cardozo responds to a request for his autograph, writing in part, “I feel pride at the request and take pleasure in signing this letter in the best handwriting at my command.” Boldly signed at the conclusion, “Benjamin N. Cardozo.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, postmarked Washington, D.C., February 29, 1964, addressed to the Student Bar Association at Georgetown University Law Center.

Benjamin N. Cardozo (1870–1938) served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1932 until his death. Prior to his appointment by President Herbert Hoover, he was Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, where his influential opinions helped shape modern American common law, particularly in the areas of torts and contracts. Widely regarded as one of the most respected jurists in Supreme Court history, Cardozo was a leading voice for judicial restraint combined with thoughtful legal evolution, and his writings remain foundational in American legal scholarship.
