Harold H. Burton autographed typed letter on official Supreme Court of the United States letterhead dated September 29, 1958, from the Chambers of Justice Harold H. Burton. Addressed to Mrs. Donald A. Currier of Harvey, Illinois, Burton writes in response to a request for an autograph: “Replying to your request, I am glad to send to you, under separate cover, an autographed photograph which I hope will serve your purposes.” The letter concludes with “With cordial regards, Yours sincerely,” and is boldly signed in ink by Burton.

Harold Hitz Burton (1888–1964) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1945 to 1958. Before his appointment by Harry S. Truman, Burton served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio and previously as the mayor of Cleveland. On the Court he was known for his moderate judicial philosophy and participation in several significant post-war constitutional decisions during a transformative era in American jurisprudence.
