Coalport Porcelain Neo-classical Dishes,
Regency Period,
Circa 1800-10.
The dishes have a wide salmon ground border with a broad double Greek-key design and gilt band borders. The central well with a gilt overall seaweed design and a central medallion of gilt bands and "en
grisaille" classical figures on a deep red ground. The dishes with the typical notched Coalport rim.
Diameter: 12 1/4 inches wide x 9 1/4 inches deep x 2 1/4 inches high (31.12cm wide x 23.50cm deep).
Mark: Unmarked and with an impressed "2" on the reverse of each.
Condition: Excellent.
Reference: Geoffrey A. Godden, "Coalport & Coalbrookdale Porcelains," page 219, ill 98 for an identical plate and Color plate 1 for similar. Many pieces of this John Rose hard paste porcelain were sent undecorated to Thomas Baxter in London, Thomas Pardoe in Bristol and Donovan in Dublin.
