Description
What an amazing piece of artwork. So large and dramatic. I can imagine this being a center point of a large restaurant, or the home of a cattle rancher.
It was made by artist Jack Balas (1955 - ), and he still produces artwork, although quite different from this early piece. This is dated 1994. Mr. Balas is a recognized fine artist with gallery showings, one man shows, and museum listings. This painting is on a wooden panel and the frame is a heavy duty industrial metal 2" wide. It stands 73" tall, the width is 48", and again the depth is 2" in the metal industrial frame. It is heavy. This is the earliest piece of his work, and the largest, I found researching his body of work.
I do not know the symbology of this piece but I love the heifer standing on a hay bale in the ocean. The fellows "towing the line" has another meaning altogether (I think) and the title of the work "Passion Play" is just too far outside of my understanding.
This piece of art was either purchased in Denver or Aspen, CO by the owner of a large, long established ranch in Central Colorado. Mr. Balas' works are currently showing at the William Havu Gallery in Denver.
