Magnificent mid-century Italian hand-painted majolica birdcage in the most sought-after octagonal pagoda form, standing a dramatic 18 inches tall. Executed in classic tin-glazed earthenware with a deliberate, finely crackled "craquelé" surface that has beautifully mellowed to a soft ivory over the decades "” the exact finish collectors prize most.

Every panel is alive with cheerful hand-painted yellow lemons, green vines, and delicate daisies outlined in brown, all floating over the signature crazed white ground. The architectural roof is topped with a green-tipped finial, and the eight sides are fitted with aged brass wire bars and graceful arched "windows." Original ceramic feeders remain inside.

Most special are the two colorful stuffed fabric birds still perched on their wooden dowels "” one turquoise with purple accents, the other vibrant orange and green "” giving the cage an instant, joyful personality straight out of a 1950s–60s Italian villa.

Marked underneath with the model code "M4119." Italian, circa 1950–1970. Excellent vintage condition: no chips, cracks, or repairs; only the expected light patina and gentle staining within the crackle that confirms its age and authenticity.
