Description
A rare and exceptional antique French Art Nouveau table lamp by Mont Joye (Legras & Cie), one of France's most celebrated Art Nouveau glassmakers. This exquisite lamp features a hand-painted and enameled glass cylinder shade with stunning sunflower botanical designs in the distinctive Mont Joye style.
ABOUT MONT JOYE:
Mont Joye was a premium line produced by Legras & Cie of Pantin, France, from approximately 1880s-1920s. These lamps were created for the luxury market and represent the pinnacle of French Art Nouveau glass artistry. Each piece was meticulously hand-painted by skilled artisans, making every lamp unique.
DESIGN & CRAFTSMANSHIP:
The cylindrical glass shade showcases beautifully detailed sunflowers with golden-yellow petals and rich brown centers, surrounded by naturalistic stems and leaves. The decoration features the characteristic Mont Joye techniques of enameling and gilding on textured frosted glass, creating a luminous effect when illuminated.
The lamp features ornamental metal fittings with decorative "drip" or icicle edge details on both the top and bottom rims, creating an elegant frame for the art glass shade. The metalwork has developed an attractive aged patina consistent with its early 20th century origins.
This is a museum-quality example of French Art Nouveau decorative arts and a significant piece for collectors of Mont Joye, Legras glass, Art Nouveau lighting, or French cameo glass. Mont Joye lamps rarely appear on the market and are highly sought after by serious collectors.
