Description
An elegant antique Japanese Nippon porcelain cabinet vase dating to the early 20th century (circa 1905–1915). The twin-handled form features a finely hand-painted portrait medallion of a young woman in Edwardian dress, surrounded by elaborate raised gilt moriage decoration, jeweled enamel accents, and a rich emerald green ground.
The intricate beaded gold work and enamel "jeweling" are hallmarks of high-quality Nippon export porcelain made for the American market during the late Victorian and Edwardian period. The underside bears a maple leaf wreath "Nippon" mark, confirming production prior to 1921.
Originally intended as a parlor cabinet display piece, this vase today functions beautifully as a decorative accent for a bookshelf, console, mantel, or vanity and works especially well in traditional, French country, and grandmillennial interiors.
