Description
With no stretchers or spandrels, this petite Chinese table flows like a ribbon, rounding the bend to solid panel sides carved to resemble table legs. Known as a scroll table, this kind of low table was traditionally used for reading and writing atop a kang platform or daybed, or atop larger altar table to display precious objects.
Crafted with mortise-and-tenon joinery, the table features a waisted plank top, an apron of botanical flourishes and a beaded edge that trims the s-curve sides. A layer of brushed lacquer darkens the surface, now gently worn to reveal the wood grain beneath.
