Description
A compelling hand-painted ceramic tile mural depicting a seated scholar in traditional Middle Eastern or North African attire, rendered in earthy tones with expressive brushwork. The image evokes classical themes of knowledge and contemplation, likely inspired by Islamic Golden Age or Orientalist art traditions. This artwork is composed of (42) individually painted ceramic tiles (6 x 6 grid) mounted on a composite backing board. The image surface has a glazed, glossy finish. The panel is unsigned on the front, though there is a handwritten inscription on the reverse in German Condition: Overall good condition with minor signs of age and wear. Minor surface craczing and visible edge wear to the tile glazing. Some separation is visible between the tile layer and backing board, particularly at the edges, which appear to be fiberboard or particle wood. No visible major cracks to tiles themselves. Provenance: Of German origin, this item was later discovered and acquired by the consignor at an antique establishment outside Atlanta. Piece measures approx. 36" x 42" x 1"
