Description
This likely reproduction cobalt blue pressed glass log cabin dish reproduces one of the most distinctive advertising forms of the Victorian era. The original design, known as Pattern #78, was introduced in 1875 by the Central Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia and produced as an advertising piece for Lutted’s S.P. Cough Drops, a well-known 19th-century patent medicine.
Log cabin–form containers like this were used as countertop display jars, capitalizing on America’s fascination with frontier imagery while promoting so-called “quack medicine” remedies. The bold architectural molding and deep cobalt color made these pieces visually striking and memorable to customers.
This example reflects that historic design and measures approximately 9 inches long by 7 inches tall, consistent with known originals. Pieces in this pattern are highly collectible due to their association with Victorian advertising, early American pressed glass, and patent medicine history.
Note: Log cabin dishes of this type are known in both antique and later reproduction forms. This piece is offered as a collectible example of the Lutted’s Cough Drops log cabin design, with buyers encouraged to make their own assessment regarding age and originality.
A standout display piece for collectors of antique advertising, pressed glass, patent medicine memorabilia, or Americana-inspired décor.
