Title: Oil painting A moment before the first drop of rain Boris Serdyuk Description: NoAAA5464The Oil painting on Cardboard titled "A moment before the first drop of rain" encapsulates the raw tension and stillness that nature holds in the fragile balance before a storm breaks. Executed in thick, textured strokes of oil, the piece conveys not only the visual impression of the landscape but also the atmosphere-the dense, charged air that precedes rainfall. Painted on cardboard, the rough surface amplifies the tactile presence of the brushwork, enhancing the immediacy of the scene. Every stroke becomes a pulse, resonating with the heavy silence and expectancy that nature radiates in such fleeting moments. The sky dominates the composition, a tumultuous expanse of brooding blues, purples, and muted yellows. Thick layers of impasto are applied in sweeping, almost sculptural strokes, capturing the turbulence of gathering clouds. Their jagged edges and overlapping hues convey not only the darkness of the storm but also the fragments of lingering daylight breaking through. Pale streaks of turquoise and ochre peek from behind, suggesting that the storm has not yet fully claimed the sky, but its approach is undeniable. This visual battle between light and shadow becomes the emotional core of the painting, symbolizing the tension between calm and chaos. Beneath this dynamic sky lies a tranquil yet foreboding body of water, reflecting the incoming drama above. The artist's strokes here are broad and horizontal, blending tones of violet, deep blue, and gray. The reflection is not smooth but broken, its fragmented texture mirroring the instability of the atmosphere. The surface of the water feels weighted, as though it is bracing itself for the impact of raindrops that could disturb its temporary calm at any moment. Light touches of brighter hues break across the darker surface, hinting at the last glow of sunlight struggling to persist before it is muted by the storm. On the left, a cluster of trees and foliage bursts into the foreground, painted with bold strokes of green, orange, and ochre. Their leaves, some tinged with autumnal reds, seem restless, almost trembling in anticipation of the rain-laden wind. The thick application of paint gives them volume and a tactile quality, as if they could sway at any moment. This patch of vibrant greenery stands in stark contrast to the shadowy masses of the forested horizon beyond, where darker greens and browns merge into the gathering gloom.
