Description
(c.1900–1930); Worked in vibrant silk threads on a golden silk ground, depicting numerous children (???) engaged in festive activities, including playing instruments, carrying banners and lanterns, and performing a lively dragon dance. At the center, a large orange dragon curls dynamically amid celebrants, while a blue qilin appears below, surrounded by groups of children holding weapons, drums, and auspicious emblems. One banner bears the inscription ???? (“Timely wind and rain”), an auspicious phrase invoking harmony and good harvests. The border is worked with patterned silk, framing the busy celebratory scene. Such textiles were commonly produced in southern China in the late Qing and early Republic period, used as decorative hangings for festive occasions, weddings, or temple celebrations. The combination of “hundred boys” imagery, dragon, and qilin underscores themes of fertility, prosperity, protection, and abundance.Dimensions? 49 INCHES X 32.5 INCHES.
