DOUBLY RARE VIKING COPPER WEDDING RING, SIZE 5 1/2

Description

10th-11th Century AD. 0.82' (20.8mm) outside diameter. Broad width band, 3.4mm, with low rounded face and cast with a central core which was laboriously removed to finish the ring for wear. In this example, the removal is incomplete with partial core remaining. Mottled red/brown patina with encrustation from burial. Vikings were expert metallurgists. The use of pure copper is rare and suggests a supernatural significance as alloys were much more durable. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom's sword.
