Title: Oil painting Sunset over the forest Oleksiy Ivanyuk Description: ?Kalen 1650 The Oil painting Canvas titled "Sunset over the forest" captures the mystical moment when daylight begins to dissolve into the tender embrace of twilight, casting the landscape into a dreamlike glow. The artist employs thick, textured strokes of oil paint to weave a narrative of nature’s quiet yet powerful transformation, bringing together vibrant contrasts of color, shadow, and light. The eye is immediately drawn to the golden hues in the upper part of the canvas, where the sun’s final rays seep through dense treetops. These warm tones of amber, ochre, and glowing gold suggest the heavens aflame, illuminating the edges of clouds and igniting the forest canopy with radiance. This dramatic interplay between fading light and emerging darkness creates a tension that holds the viewer in awe, evoking the fleeting majesty of the day’s end. The forest itself, depicted with deep strokes of dark greens, purples, and blues, stands in contrast to the fiery sky. The trees form a looming, almost impenetrable wall of foliage, rendered with expressive impasto technique that emphasizes their texture and density. The shadows are thick and mysterious, hinting at the silence and secrets hidden within the woods. Against this backdrop of darkness, the emerging night seems alive, echoing with stillness and a sense of anticipation. At the lower right of the canvas, two horses stand quietly, bathed in the softened glow of the setting sun. Their figures, painted with subtle blends of whites, lilacs, and muted grays, act as delicate focal points that bring life into the otherwise solitary landscape. The horses embody both fragility and grace, their calm presence offering balance to the dramatic contrasts around them. They appear almost ethereal, as if caught between the realms of reality and dream, guardians of the threshold between day and night. The grassy foreground, painted in lively tones of green, teal, and touches of orange and crimson, reflects the last warmth of sunlight. The strokes are dynamic and layered, suggesting movement in the earth and vegetation, as if the land itself is absorbing the sun’s parting energy. This foundation connects the viewer directly to the landscape, grounding the mystical sky and shadowed forest in a tactile, earthly reality.
