Description
This mid-to-late 19th-century primitive dome-top trunk is a classic example of American vernacular utilitarian furniture. The chest is constructed of solid pine planks featuring simple nailed-plank construction with butt-jointed corners rather than dovetails. The interior retains its original decorative floral-patterned wallpaper lining, which includes a handwritten name in pencil, likely an owner's mark, reading A. Gaillard. The trunk is fitted with an iron hasp and a rectangular iron lock plate with a distinctive pivoting leaf-shaped keyhole escutcheon. The sides are equipped with cast iron drop handles on decorative backplates, and the lid is secured by small iron butt hinges. No drawers are present in this storage configuration. Dimensions: Not provided. Burns in-house shipping is available.
