Ornate countertop balance scale marked �THE MICROMETER – PATENTED MAR. 22, 1898 / JUL. 21, 1903 – THE DODGE SCALE CO. – 11th AVE & 20TH ST. – NEW YORK.� Constructed of cast iron framework with brass fittings and a substantial white marble platform base set into a gilt-painted plinth. The large brass weighing scoop (or produce basket) mounts above a decorative cast support, while the horizontal beam assembly features turned brass adjustment knobs at either end. The maker’s plaque is prominently cast in relief across the beam housing, with a cylindrical micrometer-style weight indicator visible beneath.
Shows surface wear consistent with age and commercial use, including oxidation and patina to brass components, paint loss to the cast iron supports, and scattered abrasions along the gilt base. Marble slab intact with light edge wear. Mechanism present; operational status not tested. Overall very heavy and structurally solid.
