This is a full hull oil tanker builders model by the extraordinary K. Akao. The model is in a plexiglass case 36" long x 6.5" wide x 11" high and appears to be approximately 50 years old and in very nice condition. Akao's builders model are noted for their incredible detail and craftsmanship. Most of the deck hardware is polished brass in the tradition of the best commercial models. The ensemble is very heavy, and the plexiglass cover has a few scratches and is attached to a wood base with polished brass screws, matching the deck hardware. The superstructure as assumed as painted brass but the hull composition is unknown. The V on the funnel may represent the Vlasov empire of Russian commercial ships that transitioned into the Sitmar Line of cruising vessels. A one of kind miniature of rare quality.
