Antique Chinese Brown Lacquer Jewelry Dressing Case with Brass Hardware

Description

This antique Chinese dressing case features a warm brown lacquer finish over softwood, with a rich grain pattern and a compact, rectangular form. Likely from the early 20th century, the case opens from the top to reveal a shallow compartment, while a pair of paneled doors below secure with traditional Chinese pin-and-lock hardware in aged brass. Behind the doors are three drawers of varying sizes, each fitted with its original brass teardrop pulls and escutcheons. The sides are finished with iron drop handles mounted on floral backplates, and the case rests on a thick, stepped base.

Dovetail joinery and visible wear at the edges"”along with patina and oxidation to the brass"”lend authenticity and age. The hinged lid is reinforced at the back with metal mounts. Originally used for storing jewelry or grooming items, this case now serves as a handsome decorative accent or functional storage or jewelry box for a console or tabletop.
