Stunning Japanese 4-panel painted Byobu (folding screen), depicting a scene from the 11th century classic work of Japanese literature "The Tale of Genji" written by the noblewoman and poet, lady Murasaki Shikibu. Dark bronze background. Signed and sealed by artist. Watercolor and ink on paper. Silk border. Lacquered black wood frame with engraved copper corners and plaques, showing age patina. Paper, two metal hangers and original label on back. Detailed. This screen had one owner. Japan, Showa Era, circa 1970s. Excellent condition - no damage to the painting nor back, minor age wear overall, strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
