Chinese Famille Rose Medallion Porcelain Bowl. Large bowl is hand-painted and richly adorned with figural court scenes, floral reserves, birds, and an ornate profusion of butterflies and blossoms throughout. Both the exterior and interior walls are elaborately decorated. The exterior features alternating panels framed by elaborate rose and foliate borders. The figural reserves depict refined court ladies engaged in leisurely pursuits within palace interiors. Interspersed among these narrative panels are floral and bird vignettes bursting with colors of pink, green, red, blue, yellow, and white. Fine gilt detailing is present along the rim of bowl. Large bowls of this scale were luxury objects, used for display or ceremonial serving rather than everyday dining.
In modern homes, this bowl is ideal as a dramatic centerpiece on a dining or console table, or as a statement piece atop a pedestal in an entry.
