Description

18th Century Antique French Neoclassical Trumeau Mirror in Painted and Gilt Wood.
Mirror is painted in a soft, timeworn sage green with a beautifully aged patina. The frame is adorned with giltwood detailing and crowned by a dramatic relief of Medusa's head, flanked by symmetrical gilt floral and foliate scrollwork. Four gilt stars accent the upper panel. This upper section features an oval medallion centered with a modeled Medusa mask, an enduring motif drawn from Greco-Roman antiquity and popularized in French decorative arts. The lower portion houses a tall rectangular mirror plate framed by delicate gilt moldings with intricate beaded and floral carving.
This mirror offers dramatic verticality and sculptural presence. Ideal placement in modern interiors include in an entryway as a statement architectural piece, leaned against a wall in a contemporary setting, or in a dining or living area to amplify the light and add classical refinement.
