Description
An exceptional and monumental pair of Meissen porcelain figural compotes in the Rococo Revival style, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
Each dramatic centerpiece features an elaborately pierced and scalloped oval bowl with richly gilt borders and hand-painted floral sprays to the interior. The exterior is adorned with fully modeled applied floral garlands in vibrant enamel colors, cascading across the bowl and down the sculptural supports.
The bowls are upheld by finely detailed figural groups in 18th-century dress, standing amidst scrolling acanthus foliage and floral elements. The bases are richly molded with Rococo scrollwork in soft pastel tones of blush, celadon, ivory, and gilt. The craftsmanship and scale make these true statement pieces intended for grand interiors.
Both pieces bear the underglaze blue crossed swords mark to the underside, indicating Meissen manufacture.
These monumental examples were designed as centerpieces or jardinières and function beautifully today as sculptural focal points for a console, pedestal display, or formal dining room setting.
