Artist Biography

Friedrich Johann Voltz (1817-1886). Born at Nordlingen, 1817. Died at Munich, 1886.
Known for: Bucolic landscape painting. Son and pupil of Johann Michael Voltz. Studied at the Munich Academy and from nature, in the Bavarian Alps. Visited Italy, 1843 - 1845. Member of the Academies at Munich, Berlin and Vienna. Gold Medals, Berlin, 1856, 1861. Wurtemburg Medal for Art. Orders of the Red Eagle and of St. Michael. "Loan exhibition of paintings owned by residents of Rochester: the Memorial Art Gallery. June - September, 1915.".
