Early and scarce Oahu imprint of Bible stories, with illustrations captioned in Hawaiian.
Protestant missionaries built the first wooden structures in Hawaii on Oahu in 1821 and began printing some of these very first books in Hawaiian, which had had no written language before. The printing office that they built in 1841 is still standing and open to the public.
It is very close to the 'Iolani Palace, significant because the Hawaiian royalty were among the first to be converted to Christianity.
