
Description
Set of four good quality Louis XVI style dining or side chairs designed and produced by L. Alavoine & Cie in France, late 19th to early 20th century. Each example features compound curved square backrests, tapering recessed legs ending in pointed feet, and rosette detailing throughout.
Cushioning and fabric presenting with significant loss. Re-upholstery required.

The renowned French decorating firm L. Alavoine et Cie opened a New York City branch in 1893, and in cooperation with the great French decorator, Allard, designed such notable interiors as The Plaza Hotel (1907), Marble House (1892) the Breakers (1895), as well as numerous Newport mansions designed by Richard Morris Hunt. Armand Albert Rateau was named artistic director of the company from 1905-1919.
