This DAZZLING cotton 1860's/1870's 28-point mariner's compass quilt is all hand pieced and hand quilted, with an unusual color combination. The quilt came out of Kentucky.
It measures 76" X 96" and is in good condition, with fade & color mellowing in places, the occasional age spot, and considerable wear to the early brown back (see pics).
There is hand quilting around the piecework and in ripple and grid designs in the background, all at 7 stitches to the inch.
The back is an early brown print that has prematurely deteriorated (with batting showing through), the hand stitched binding is the same solid brown used in the interior, and the batting is thin.
