The story: Milo Baughman met Thayer Coggin in North Carolina, 1953. They shook hands. The rest is (furniture) history.

A few more thoughts: it's the mid 1950s"¦Mr. Coggin's first company "˜James Manufacturing' and now his new company "˜Thayer Coggin' are making custom-ordered bench-made modern furniture. Enter Milo Baughman.

The find: A completely original intact ottoman with tags attached from both companies including "Designs By Milo Baughman" on the Coggin tag"¦.. attention collectors!

We speculate this ottoman was made during the pivotal transitional timeframe, which, we believe, can be clearly identified through our rare ottoman example presented here. This piece could represent a milestone in the early collaboration between these two men.

The design: A pure geometric form, sometimes called a cuboid or a square prism, simple yet elegant with a nod to the modernist movement.

Overall good sturdy condition. Like all our offerings - original, non-restored and with minimal honest wear. Tapered solid walnut legs in very good condition original finish intact. The original "˜Cerulean Blue' vinyl (see the hand-written color's name on tag), in very good shape with no rips or tears, only a few light marks/scuffs. Dust cover bottom fabric in fair condition with tears.
