This is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Country Primitive Document Box.
Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Completely Hand Made out of Solid Hardwood - Possibly Beech or Alder. Note! that it has Wonderful Hand Cut Dove Tail Corner Joints. The Hand Wrought Iron Locking Mechanism - Clasp on he Front has a Brass Swing Away Key Hole Cover that is Stamped with a Crown over V. R. This indicates that it was Made in England During the Reign of Queen Victorian of England ( 1837 to 1901 ). F Y I - Locks - Hinges - and Other Brass Hardware Items Etc. were Commonly Made for Export to the United States due to the fact that there were very few makers of these types of items during this time period. There is No Key Included but the Locking Mechanism is Complete.
It still Retains its Wonderful Original Hand Painted Faux Grain Honduran Burl Mahogany Painted Surfaces. The Fancy Swing Style Carry Handle on the Top is Original and Also would have Been Made in England. I purchased this piece on one of my recent Picking Adventures in the Down East Coastal Maine Region. It is in Very Good Cosmetic and Strong - Sound Functional Condition Displays Beautifully.
