The orange colouration indicates what the mapmaker considered to be the extent of British control of the Australian coastal areas at the time, with the green areas described as "Melanesian free land". The islands of New Zealand are also named by their original Maori names by Stein, Christian Gottfried Daniel. Published Dated 1856. Published 1858. Large hand coloured antique German-language map. Size 41 x 52 cm | 16.0 x 20.5 inches. Condition: Good; suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. This is a folding map. There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is plain.
