Description: Australie—Océanie'. An attractive and lively pictorial map of Australie et Océanie, designed in 1951 by Jacques Liozu and printed in France. Executed in Liozu’s distinctive mid-century graphic style, the map combines simplified geography with humorous and decorative vignettes illustrating local wildlife, indigenous peoples, colonial history and regional trade. Australia is shown populated with kangaroos and pastoral scenes, while the islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia are enlivened with sailing craft, palm trees, and symbolic figures. A bold compass rose, scrolling cartouches, and a decorative border incorporating national flags add to its visual appeal. Produced in the immediate post-war period, the map reflects contemporary French popular geography and design, making it both a charming decorative piece and a cultural artefact of early-1950s cartographic illustration. by Liozu, Jacques.
